Abstract: This paper looks at an instrument named the Single Fibre Analyser (SIFAN) that measures fibre diameter at regular intervals along 100millimetre length. The variation in fibre diameter along the length of the fibre influences the staple strength of the fibre. Fibre diameter and growth rate varies through the year due to the changing nutritional status of the animals.
