The hypothesis addressed in this thesis were that antimicrobial usage patterns on swine farms were associated with antimicrobial resistant fecal Escherichia coli of finisher pigs. Types and frequency of antimicrobial use and motives for their use were described using mail survey and on-farm techniques. The prevalence of antimicrobial usage in weaner rations, finisher rations and water of feeder pigs were 86%, 29% and 25%, respectively.
