"The concept of the study came from pastoralists in the North East Goldfields. The then Officer-in-Charge, Department of Agriculture, Kalgoorlie, Don Burnside, sought funding for the study, and in consultation, proposed a trial design. Funding was provided by the Australian Meat Research Corporation, AMRC, (now the Meat Research Corporation, MRC), for the first three years.
