Abstract: Two experiments with steers investigated the effects on liveweight gain and feed conversion efficiency of various methods of feeding roughage and grain, plus the antibiotic Virginiamycin. In experiment 1, two major feeding presentation alternatives were studied: (i) speed of introduction to a final mixed diet (sudden vs a two-step approach), and (ii) mixed vs separate presentation of hay and the concentrate portion of the diet.
