Nematodes are common soil pests that feed on the roots of a wide range of crop plants in all agricultural areas of Western Australia, irrespective of soil type and rainfall. Consequently, as nematode populations increase, crop production is limited. This Bulletin discusses the root lesion nematode (sp. Pratylenchus), its disease cycle, symptoms, impact and yield losses and management, and the burrowing nematode (sp. Radolpholus) and its symptoms, hosts and management.
