Over the period 1978/79 to 1987/88, 12 trials were carried out to test the effectiveness of 24 insecticides in controlling whitefringed weevil, Graphognathus leucoloma (Boh.), larvae in the spring potato crop in the Manjimup/Pemberton region of Western Australia. Heptachlor 40 per cent EC was undoubtedly the most effective chemical and while not an option for the future due to its highly residual nature, provided a standard for excellent control throughout the trials.
