Abstract: Soil surveys of six experimental subcatchments in the eastern hills area of the Darling range, Western Australia were carried out to provide background information for a study into the effects of various types of land use on streamwater quality. The land use types and location of the study areas were : Agricultural - pasture (Gidgiegannup Brook), rural/residential (Susannah Brook), residential (Mundaring townsite and Torwood Drive, Gooseberry Hill) and horticultural - orchards (Patterson Road, Pickering B
