A number of varieties of subclover have been identified with resistance to the devastating pest redlegged earthmite. Four of the resistant varieties have the potential to be directly used as commercial cultivars and are now undergoing extensive field testing as a prerequisite to release to farmers. Some of the other resistant varieties are being used in the NSCIP breeding program to produce redlegged earthmite resitant crossbred clovers.
