A trial was set up in a dense mulga pasture to assess the impact on the pasture and productive potential of goats over a range of stocking rates. A direct comparison was made with the more traditional land use - sheep grazing. Goats were run at five stocking rates. Reproductive performance was used as an indicator of animal productivity. The impact of the treatments increased with increasing stocking rate, and a stocking level of around 15 ha/DSE was defined as being safe and sustainable for this part
