Abstract:
The oaten hay export trade offers attractive marginal returns for producers already well equipped with hay machinery. The returns to producers at current prices do not appear to warrant investment in hay machinery unless outputs are well over 300 t/year. There may not be clear advantages in growing higher input oat crops for hay as the major costs are on a per tonne basis.
