Abstract:
Discusses type of blemish caused by damage to the skin and pulp through bruising. Blemish is economically important and even a small amount can reduce the price received for fruit. The banana grading regulations in NSW now include a quality grade based on blemish. Blemished fruit is given a lower grade and may be unacceptable for sale. In Western Australia bruising accounts for more than 90 percent of the blemish on banana fruit.
