A shallow relief drain is a shallow channel designed to manage run-off on flat, low-lying farmland and to remove water from areas that are affected by inundation, waterlogging or flooding. This Farmnote describes and illustrates the following shallow relief drains : W drains, U drains or spoon drains and V drains ; outlines their purpose, where to site them, planning and design considerations, construction, maintenance issues and legal considerations in Western Australia.
