A preliminary survey of dock (Rumex spp.) revealed that fiddle dock (R. pulcher L.) was the predominant species in pastures, except in low, wet areas where curled dock (R. crispus L.) predominated. Agricultural factors influencing the spread and survival of docks in pastures are discussed. Preliminary experimental work on resistance of dock rootstocks to dessication and the effects of cultivation and herbicide treatments on the survival and seed formation of plants are discussed.
