When 217 subterranean clover varieties were field screened for susceptibility to Kabatiella caulivora, all varieties contracted the disease. Disease severity ranged from death of all plants of some varieties, to a few lesions on some leaves of other varieties. Disease rating appeared to be inversely proportional to the maturity of the clovers. There was an excellent relationship between visual rating of disease severity and the proportion of leaves with large disease lesions on the leaf petioles.
