Giardia is a protozoan parasite that colonises the small intestine of its host where it multiplies, rapidly covering the surface of the mucosal lining. Until recently, little was known regarding the prevalence, animal health impact and zoonotic potential of Giardia infections in dairy calves in Australia. This Dairynote discusses surveys of two dairy herds in Western Australia.
