Fluoroacetate, the active ingredient of 1080, occurs naturally in toxic plants in Australia, South Africa, and South America. Manufactured 1080 underpins most vertebrate pest control programs in Australia and New Zealand. 1080 baits are a critical component of integrated pest management programs for rabbits, foxes, wild dogs, and feral pigs in agricultural, forestry and conservation areas of Western Australia.
