Aster yellows is a plant disease of the phytoplasma group and is generally found in most parts of the world wherever air temperatures are below 32 degrees Celsius. Carrots are one of the two most important horticultural crop hosts. Aster yellows is spread naturally by insect vectors. Macrosteles quadrilineatus is the principal vector and is not present in Western australia.
