A method is proposed for the evaluation of otolith and length sampling schemes. The method uses the bootstrap of Efron (1979) to compute expected values of various parameters typically estimated basted on otolith and length samples. These include mean length at age, proportions at age and variances of the mean length at age. The expectations and variances of estimated values are compared with true population values.
