Abstract: (En)
Chemical residue remaining in wool at shearing is a potential threat to the future marketing of wool. A recent survey indicated that 30% of WA wool producers are (i) applying combinations of chemicals unnecessarily, and (ii) jetting sheep at the higher concentrations of organophosphates (OP) for treating existing strikes. This misuse of OP potentially puts the health of operators at risk, and leaves unacceptable residue in the wool if applied within 6 months of shearing. This project aims to demonstrate tt: (1) there is little benefit to be gained from either adding cyromazine or clipping the wool surrounding a strike wound, when applying an OP dressing to kill maggots; and (2) that the inability of cyromazine to kill blowfly larvae on contact doe not r
