In order to maximise potential wheat yields the Department of Agriculture has been advocating sowing as early as the season permits, especially in the low rainfall zones where the penalties of delayed sowing are great. April sowing in 1992 was successful for most growers. The average yield for all April sowings was 1.81 t/ha, 0.26 t/ha higher than the State average wheat yield.
