Anti-suckling devices (ASDs) were tested in dairy calves with the aim of using them in pastoral cattle herds to assist weaning. ASDs are designed to allow the calf to feed and drink from the ground or horizontal surface, but a plate or ring-like device hanging from the nose prevents the teat from entering the mouth when suckling is attempted.
