Parkinsonia aculeata L. (Leguminosae : Caesalpiniaceae), a weed in northern Australia, was the target of a biological control programme from 1983-1987. Sixty-five phytophagous insect species were collected from P. aculeata growing in the Sonoran desert region of the southwestern United States and Mexico. Six orders (Coleoptera, Diptera, Hemiptera, Lepidoptera, Orthoptera and Thysanoptera) and 30 families were represented.
