Abstract: The principal environmental problems identified by the Albany Harbour's study were the elevated nutrient levels in the harbours and the associated seagrass loss, heavy metal contamination of the sediments and biota, and faecal contamination and lowered aesthetic quality of shores and inshore waters. The short term options considered included algal harvesting to relieve the pressure on the remaining seagrass beds and dredging to reduce the nutrient and heavy metal stocks in the harbour sediments.
