Abstract: The poor availability of lysine reported for lupin seed was tested by comparing lupin kernel meal with lupin seed or soyabean meal at several levels of total lysine. The growth responses of young pigs to these diets suggested the availability of lysine in both the whole seed and the kernel is in the order of about 0.70. The progressive replacement of whole lupin seed with lupin kernels was examined in diets for growing pigs. The highest level of dietary lupin seed comprised 39 per cent of the diet with 7.
