Abstract: In summer, plants reduced transpiration during the diurnal cycle, but time of deviation of transpiration from the potential rate was dependent on the accumulated vapour pressure deficit hours from the time of stomatal opening. In winter, average night temperatures influenced transpiration during the following day. Little or no transpiration was measured during the days following average night air temperatures equal or less than 8.3 degrees C. This plant stress reaction occurred at pseudostem temperatures
