The initial focus of a crop pollination experiment in 1997, was to look at honey bee pollination of chickpeas (Cicer arietinum), using the recently developed Beetube at Three Springs. Nine Beetubes were placed into the crop on the 18th August 1997. The honey bees were observed over several weeks, not to pollinate the flowers. Only a few honey bees were ever seen in the crop.
