Rotation trials conducted at Katanning and Tincurrin WA determined that manipulating pastures or spraytopping the year prior to planting a cereal crop improved grain yield by 20-35%. Grain protein was increased by an average 0.5% protein. These increases in yield are the result of reduced grass weed density in the crop, increase plant available nitrogen from pasture legumes and reduced incidence and severity of root disease (take-all).
