Abstract: The total amount of minerals in solution in water determines its suitability for livestock unless the water is polluted. Other criteria are generally of secondary importance. This Farmnote discusses the changes in salinity that may occur over time, the safety of water for stock, signs of salt poisoning in various livestock and how to treat it, and how to test and correct for acidity and alkalinity in water.
