The market for live cattle in Indonesia has grown rapidly since the Indonesian Government relaxed its restrictions on imports in 1989. Indonesia is the principal market for live cattle shipped from Western Australia. In 1993 it provided a market for more than 37 000 head. This was equivalent to 45 percent of the State's exports of live cattle. Rapid growth in demand for live cattle in Indonesia has arisen as a result of Government policy.
