An opportunity exists for the further development of the horticultural industry in the Lower Great Southern. The soils and climate of the area are suitable for a wide range of temperate horticultural crops and there is potential for the area to grow in importance as a horticultural producer. Land and water resources are not limiting. The cooler summers of the coastal belt offer an opportunity to grow leafy vegetables and some brassicas, such as cauliflowers.
