Lathyrus species (grasspea) and Vicia species (vetches) are grain and forage legume crops from the Mediterranean basin which are little used in Australian agriculture. They have the potential for adaptation to low rainfall (< 300 mm) environments in southern Australia particularly on the fine-textured, neutral to alkaline soils.
