Abstract: In the field trial the best times for single applications of urea were from 2-6 weeks after sowing. Grain yield was positively correlated with grains/ear (R2 = 0.88) and ears/m2 (R2 = 0.36), and could be influenced by early N fertilizer. Parameters were all correlated with grain yield with R2 values of 0.87, 0.88 and 0.83 respectively. A later supply of N was also needed for tiller survival. Individual grain size was negatively correlated with grain yield.
