Izmir, a new subterranean clover from Western Australia, is a more persistant replacement for Nungarin with greater herbage production. It is suited to moderately acid, well-drained soils in Western Australia receiving less than 375 mm annual rainfall. It is also better suited to cropping rotations than Nungarin as it has a greater hardseededness and better seed production, and is less prone to seed losses following false breaks to the season.
