Irrigation of grapevines on sandy soils in Western Australia requires a different strategy to that required on heavier soils. Sands have a lower water holding capacity and need to be irrigated more frequently in smaller applications. Total irrigation requirements are therefore generally greater and needs to be commenced earlier in the season.
