Abstract: This video is about oil mallees and how they might save the wheat belt from salinity and provide a source of renewable energy, as well as other products. Oil mallees were once considered to be a pest tree and were levelled en masse during agricultural land clearings in the past. However, in recent times due to the problems caused by salinity there has been a major rethink about these trees. Research being conducted by the CISRO indicates that the oil mallees could provide not only relief from salinity butlso value added products namely activated carbon, biomass for renewable energy as well as eucalyptus oil. There are many enthusiastic proponents of the oil mallee and the Oil Mallee Association of WA is assisting farmers to choose areas to plant. Howeve
