Abstract: The best wheat sowing depth is less than the coleoptile length and for most soils this is between 3 to 5 cm. Press wheels may be an advantage on some soils. Press wheel presssure in the range 1.5 to 2.4 kg/cm width was the best on lighter soils. Heavier clay soils may need slightly more pressure. Sowing depth has to be carefully monitored on press wheel pressure experiments using spring loaded press wheels.
