Abstract: This Farmnote discusses the impact of the increase in production costs between 2005 and 2006 on the economics of growing export oaten hay in Western Australia. It also discusses the impact that raising fertiliser prices can have on the cost of replacing nutrients removed when growing hay and the combined impact of rising fuel and fertiliser prices on the scale of operation needed to sustain different hay farming operations.
