The project differed from most other published research by attempting to use acoustics to control honey bee behaviour rather than just analysing and interpreting the acoustics of honey bees. Curtin University of Technology was successful in developing a device that could imitate any sound that a honey bee(s) made during swarming or during any other behavioural response.
