"Wide scale testing of new crop varieties prior to release is critical in determining suitability for commercialisation and adoption by industry. The Crop Variety Testing project within the Department of Agriculture Western Australia conducts approximately 200 trials each year throughout the wheatbelt, on a range of crop species. In collaboration with other research groups, varieties are identified with advances in quality, yield or disease resistance." -- Project summary.
