This project was undertaken to provide land managers with information about the extent and magnitude of crop losses near trees and how tree/crop competition is best managed in windbreak and alley farming systems in Western Australia. The growth and water use of crops, pastures and trees in agroforestry systems with and without various tree/crop competition management strategies was assessed. Measurements were made at 9 sites in the Esperance region of southwestern Western Australia between 1999 and 2003.
