Abstract: Achievement of good yields depends on growing lupins in the right situation. The most important factor is probably soil type. Early sowing is essential for best yields. As lupin yields are more sensitive to delayed sowing than those of other crops grown in the low rainfall wheatbelt, they should generally be sown first. Optimum plant densities varied enormously with yield potential. 35-40 plants/m2 is probably a realistic figure to aim for most soils where lupins are grown in the low-rainfall wheatbelt.
